Our Favourite Rolex Watches For Travelling!
We are half way through June, which means summer has officially arrived and so far, the British weather has been surprisingly kind. But no matter how often the sun’s shining at home, now is the time to hop on a plane and visit some of the worlds most scenic and exotic destinations.
One important thing every traveller has to remember before venturing abroad is whether you’re wearing a suitable travel watch. There is nothing worse than having to worry about taking your watch off when you fancy a swim, or worrying about damaging it when your enjoying an adrenaline filled quad bike ride. Since the right holiday watch depends on what it is you’re doing whilst you’re away, we’ve made it easy by putting together a watch list for the most common kinds of trips.
Robust and sporty – For the fun filled holiday
Probably one of, if not THE best watch to travel with is Rolex’s iconic dual time GMT-Master II. Not only has it recently become an extremely desirable piece (especially ref. 116710BLNR), its strong steel case is robust and features some incredibly useful functions for travellers. The black dial features luminous coated dot hour markers and a date indication at three o’clock. The newest GMT’s also feature a ceramic 24-hour graduated bezel, which allows its wearers to set their home destination time and their current local time. Perfect for time conscious jet setter!
Traditional and dressy – For the modern city break
The Rolex Sky-Dweller, a model purposefully designed for keen travellers is also a great, stylish and reliable wristwatch perfect for a summer abroad. The Sky-dweller is the only other Rolex to feature a dual time zone function, but instead of a graduated bezel, the sky-Dweller maintains an elegant fluted bezel and a 24-hour off centred wheel. This piece is much less sporty than the GMT, so if it’s a smart looking Rolex for a City trip you are after, then the Sky-Dweller is the one!
Reliable and waterproof – For the exotic beach trip
If you’re planning a beach escape with some snorkelling and diving trips, then the Rolex Submariner is a great choice. The newest model ref. 116610LN features a tough waterproof steel case and a black dial with hour dot markers, which are coated in luminous material. The luminous element in addition to the ceramic bezel with 60-minute graduations, allows divers to be in control of their dive time and guarantees the dial’s visibility whilst under water.
There are two other Rolex models that have a better water resistant depth for those avid divers, however the Sea-Dweller ref. 126600 and Deep Sea ref. 126660 both feature enlarged cases (around 43-44 mm). If you wanted a dive watch without the bulk, then the Submariner should be your first choice. With a slightly thinner case and diameter of 40 mm, it is more comfortable to wear everyday.
Most people travel away to relax on a beach, visit a city or experience adrenaline, so if you’re in one of the above categories then we really hope this blog helps. To start the search for your perfect travelling companion, take a look at our newest arrivals by clicking here!
