Golden celebrations for Patek Nautilus this year
There are certain timepieces that just make us smile from ear to ear when they come into our boutique.

One of those is the Patek Nautilus – we absolutely love it – and this year, the iconic model will reach a major milestone: its 50th birthday.

For us, few watches compare. Not many carry the same cultural weight. It’s instantly recognisable thanks to its porthole-inspired case and integrated bracelet – a design that has become one of the most sought-after luxury sports watches ever created.

First unveiled in 1976, the Nautilus was the creation of legendary watch designer Gérald Genta. At a time when most luxury watches were crafted in precious metals and paired with leather straps, the Nautilus broke the mould.

It arrived in stainless steel, featured a bold integrated bracelet and carried a price tag that rivalled gold dress watches. What initially seemed radical would eventually become one of the defining designs of modern watchmaking.

Over the decades, the Nautilus has evolved through numerous references and complications, yet the core aesthetic has remained largely unchanged, cementing its ‘icon’ status.

What big celebrations could we see for the anniversary?
While Patek Philippe rarely reveals its plans in advance, major anniversaries typically bring significant releases.

As 2026 approaches, collectors and enthusiasts are already speculating about what the watchmaker might unveil to celebrate five decades of the Nautilus.

With Patek about to take part in Watches and Wonders after a break, we’re definitely hoping to see some kind of anniversary edition.

A shift away from stainless steel
One of the rumours circulating in our watch circles is that Patek could mark the occasion with a watch crafted from a more exclusive material.

Platinum has been mentioned frequently, especially considering the brand previously used it for a special anniversary Nautilus. Many analysts believe a 5811P or similar platinum variant would be the most likely commemorative piece.

Titanium has also been suggested as a potential modern twist for a limited-edition model.
A new Nautilus reference
Collectors are also hopeful for the introduction of new references within the Nautilus family.

A steel model inspired by the original “Jumbo” design might be nice, potentially offering a contemporary reinterpretation of the 3700 reference.

Complicated Nautilus models
Patek Philippe is renowned for its technical watchmaking, and an anniversary release could showcase this expertise.

A Nautilus equipped with a perpetual calendar, an advanced micro-rotor movement, or another high complication would certainly generate significant excitement.
Strong market demand
Whatever Patek Philippe ultimately releases, demand is almost guaranteed to be intense.

Previous anniversary models have sold out instantly and quickly appeared on the secondary market at substantial premiums.
With the Nautilus already among the most desirable watches in the world, all eyes are going to be on Watches & Wonders.

Previous Nautilus celebrations
Looking at past anniversaries gives some insight into how the brand approaches these occasions.
30th Anniversary – 2006

Patek Philippe introduced the reference 5711/1A, a stainless steel model that would go on to become the defining Nautilus of the modern era. Its clean dial layout and balanced proportions made it one of the most celebrated sports watches ever produced.

40th Anniversary – 2016
For the Nautilus’ 40th birthday, the brand released two special limited editions.

The reference 5711/1P in platinum was produced in just 700 pieces, while the oversized chronograph reference 5976/1G in white gold was limited to 1,300 pieces.

Both models quickly became collector favourites and demonstrated how Patek Philippe uses anniversaries to introduce distinctive variations of its iconic design.
A waiting game
With the Nautilus turning 50 this year, it remains to be seen whether Patek Philippe opts for a refined tribute to the original design or introduces an entirely new interpretation.

One thing is for certain… We are excited! And any anniversary Nautilus will instantly become one of the most talked-about watch releases of the year.
Keep your eyes peeled as we will let you know when we hear anything! In the meantime, if you want to get your hands on a Nautilus, our team can help.
