New for June: Summer offerings in the horology world
If you can finally smell Summer and a new watch is on the cards, we’re here to help you choose with a raft of new offerings in the horology world.
Summer often brings new fashion trends and styles, and a new watch can complement your lighter wardrobe perfectly. Whether it’s a vibrant, colorful design or a sleek, minimalist look, there are plenty of options to suit your style.
We’ve spied these new offerings from Hublot, Omega and Audemars Piguet, so without further ado, let’s check them out!
Hublot ~ Arsham Droplet
Hublot is known for its outlandish creations and it has partnered with contemporary visual artist Daniel Arsham, who is marking his debut as an official Hublot ambassador with the release of the Arsham Droplet – the world’s first sapphire crystal pocket watch.
This versatile timepiece is pretty cool as it can function as a pocket watch, pendant, or even a table clock. It features a titanium case, rubber bumpers, and a sapphire crystal, with dimensions of 73.2mm by 52.6mm and a thickness of 22.5mm.
What we really like here is the asymmetrical droplet shape which is unusual, diverging from the typical symmetry seen in most timekeeping devices.
Omega ~ Moonswatches
The most inventive MoonSwatches released to date are here: Lava, Polar Lights and Desert.
This funky trio in a blue case from Swatch are based on the iconic Speedmaster design from Omega and have been sent to certain UK boutiques. These will go on sale on Saturday (June 15).
Each chronograph comes in a color developed exclusively for this collection and features all the hallmarks of the Speedmaster Moonwatch, the first watch on the moon.
Lava takes inspiration from the volcanoes. The details on the dial honours three additional iconic OMEGA models: the Speedmaster “Ultraman” and the Speedmaster Alaska II and III projects.
Polar Lights is presented in a turquoise. This chronograph represents the beauty of the Aurora Borealis. In celebration of the Speedmaster Alaska II and III projects, it features a unique detail on its subdials.
Desert echoes the desert sands that cover more than a fifth of the Earth’s land surface, this chronograph features a palette of light gray-beige tones. A unique detail on its subdials, pays homage to the Speedmaster Alaska II and III projects, in addition to the first watch on the moon.
The MoonSwatch Mission on Earth editions have a design of planet Earth on the battery cover and Super-LumiNova applied to the hands and hour markers, meaning they are great for reading time in low-light conditions.
Audemars Piguet ‘Shaping Materials’ collection
Audemars Piguet’s latest watch releases in 2024 are creating quite a buzz. The Swiss watchmaker, already in the spotlight with the new John Mayer’s Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar, has introduced more coveted pieces.
This year’s theme, ‘Shaping Materials’ showcases the brand’s innovative techniques and designs, featuring a variety of textures, colours and shapes.
Gleaming from every angle is the obscurely shaped Master02 Selfwinding, paying homage to the asymmetrical watch crafted by the manufacture in 1960. The 41mm timepiece is made of the brand’s new 18-carat sand gold alloy and has a midnight blue dial.
The new Royal Oak Selfwinding Full Gemset pieces are a little crazy in a camouflage style with two colour options: blue or army-style. The motif is created from no fewer than 861 baguette-cut gems.
Another style we just can’t get to grips with (but hey, nothing is for everyone) is the new Code 11:59 38mm collection with gems. Both options come with coloured dials and cases, complete with brilliant-cut diamonds and coloured sapphires in a mosaic-style pattern in 18 carat white or pink gold.
