Novelty watches for 2020
When days all meld into one and it seems like a lifetime until you can socialise with your pals, sup a pint in your local or take your kids on the swings, you certainly need something to make you smile.
Today we’re looking at the latest novelty watches for 2020, whether they be whacky, colourful or just creative, here are a few of our favourites at Luxe Watches HQ.
Hublot Big Bang MP-11 Red Magic
We love this fabulous blood-red offering from Hublot, limited to just 100 pieces.
Celebrating innovation and sheer skill in crafting, the Big Bang MP-11 Reg Magic’s movement can be witnessed through a transparent dial.
Fully polished, this original case and bezel material offers a distinctive contrast with the iconic H-shaped screws of the Big Bang in black titanium. With a black rubber strap, the result is a bold and striking design, typical of Hublot.
And perhaps the best thing about this crazy-looking design is the two weeks power reserve offered thanks to seven-series coupled barrels.
No fewer than 270 components went into creating this masterpiece, with fine details such as the fluted crown, which is reminiscent of a car’s helical gears.
Cartier Privé Tank Asymétrique
Created especially for collectors and lovers of Cartier, the Asymétrique, has been given a revamp from its initial outing in the 1930s, when it was known as the Parallélogramme or Losange.
This year’s model is inspired by the Art Deco model with its distinctive triple-lug construction and slim manually winding movement.
The rectangle has become a lozenge and everything on the dial was shifted by 30 degrees and Arabic numerals replace Roman ones.
Available in pink gold with a grey dial and strap, in yellow gold with a champagne dial and brown strap, and in platinum with a silver-coloured dial, ruby cabochon and grey strap, there’s something to suit every taste.
Hermès Arceau L’Heure De La Lune
Fancy wearing martian meteorite on your wrist? Now you can.
This year sees an extension of the Hermès collection introduced at SIHH 2019, with five new models – three of which feature real meteorites.
Not only do these watches display the local moon phase, they also show the northern and southern hemispheres simlutaneously.
The new timepieces measure in at 43mm, are water resistant to 30 metres and utilise the same movement but with new dial options.
There are two blue models – one dial of Lapis Lazuli and the other using a Blue Pearl stone. The other three are made of real meteorite, with Lunar meteorite, Black Sahara meteorite, and Martian meteorite on offer.
Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept
Introducing the world’s slimmest watch at just 2mm – the width of two credit cards…
With over 10,000 combinations of colours to personalise on your subdial, movement plate, hands and strap, this is a watch as unique as its wearer.
It’s an extraordinary watch which is also aesthetically pleasing – and surely won’t have anyone rivalling it’s dimensions for a while.
