The Hublot Big Bang Alarm Repeater: Probably The Nicest Way To Be Woken Up, Ever.

Somehow, Hublot have managed to sweeten that moment of being woken up. How? They’ve introduced the Big Bang Alarm Repeater – a beautiful wristwatch with an added complication. The Alarm Repeater integrates one of the oldest ever complications, the alarm clock, inside a wristwatch that chimes to wake up its owner in the morning.

The brand want to celebrate their 10th anniversary of the iconic Big Bang model by revisiting one of its most practical complications – the alarm clock. This isn’t the first chiming wristwatch introduced by Hublot, however. This is intact the third, its predecessor being the award-winning Classic Fusion Cathedral Tourbillon Minute Repeater. Named the best “striking” watch, the minute repeater managed to exhibit the brands ability to strike the right balance between a traditional chime and modern technology.

“Several years ago, our objective was for Hublot to join the ranks of the most prestigious brands by producing almost all new materials and our own movements in-house” Explained Ricardo Guadalupe, Hublot CEO. “The new developments for 2015 symbolise this achievement.”

The latest iteration, the Big Bang Alarm Repeater fuses a mechanical alarm clock with a second time zone indicator. The chosen alarm time is set through a 24-hour counter with two hands at 5 o’clock, while an on-off indicator is visible adjacent, at 6 o’clock. when it rings, the alarm chimes for around 16 seconds, as a steel hammer strikes a gong. The watch also features a second time zone which is located at 11 o’clock which can be adjusted via a push button at 2 o’clock, as well as a triangle day/night indicator at 1 o’clock.

Certainly a watch with a lot going on. in order to power all of this, the HUB 5003 calibre is made up of 356 components, a 72-hour power reserve and two barrels – one for the movement and the other for the chime. The design of the Big Bang Alarm Repeater includes a powerful case measuring 45.5 mm in diameter, reprising the characteristics of the cases on the new Big Bang Unico models: six “H” screws, with an even more high tech, understated design. The dial on this watch features a complex 3D superimposing metal and sapphire.

The watch is manufactured in two materials, Titanium and King Gold – costing $66,700 and $85,100 respectively. Each being limited to 250 pieces. Both versions are paired with a structured and ribbed natural rubber strap featuring a clever “one click” system for changing the strap.
