The Oscars watches that packed a punch
It’s the night that will forever be remembered for that slap…. the moment Will Smith took to the stage to belt awards host Chris Rock in the face when he dared to make jokes about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, having alopecia.
But we were equally mesmerized by some of the amazing wristwear adorned by Hollywood’s elite for the 94th Academy Award, in what some say has been the most impressive year yet in the fashion stakes.
Here’s a rundown of some of our favourite offerings from the night:
Andrew Garfield ~ Omega Speedmaster ‘57
Known for being an incredibly suave dresser, best actor nominee Andrew Garfield went for an Omega watch that completely matched his red velvet tuxedo.
He opted for the smaller Speedmaster 57 with a gorgeous red dial to match the jacket and black leather strap to complement his shirt.
Inside all the new, slicker and slimmer 2022 Omega Speedmaster 57 ticks the co-axial master chronometer calibre 9906 which is a manual-winding mechanical movement developed and manufactured in-house. With a decent power reserve of 50 hours, magnetic resistance and school absorbers, it’s a great choice for the Spiderman actor.
Belfast star Jamie also wore the new Speedmaster 57, but a much chunkier and sportier version with a green dial and metal bracelet.
Rami Malek ~ Cartier Tank
Cartier was another top choice for a few celebrities with both Bohemian Rhapsody actor Rami Malek and Jake Gyllenhaal both sporting classic Tanks for the big occasion. Malek went for the full ensemble including a matching Cartier lapel pin.
Not the usual circular face, we love the striking design of his watch. A flat steel band complements the small, rectangular body of this classic timepiece, which looked more than perfect with this slick tux.
During the show, Malek presented the award for Best Original Song, which went to Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell for their theme song for No Time to Die, in which he played Bond’s nemesis, Lucifer Safin.
Shaun White ~ Omega Moonwatch
Legendary Olympic medallist Shaun White looked ice cool in his Omega Moonwatch gold with green dial. The recently-retired snowboarder showed up at the Oscars and fans couldn’t get enough of his beautiful 42mm wristwear in 18K Moonshine Gold.
The watch is powered by Omega’s co-axial master chronometer calibre 3861 and features a Sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment and water resistance of 50 metres.
Simu Liu ~ Seamaster Aqua Terra
The Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu didn’t win any awards but was still showing off. If his bright red tuxedo wasn’t enough, he paired it with a bold 18K yellow gold Seamaster Aqua Terra.
Designed as a versatile wristwatch, it’s water-resistant to 150 meters, paying homage to Omega’s maritime heritage.
