We review: Hublot Big Bang MECA-10 Concrete Jungle

As major Hublot fans here at Luxe Watches, we were super thrilled to get our hands on the Big Bang MECA-10 Concrete Jungle this week – as they’re exclusively available through Hublot boutiques in the United States.

And it might just be one of its boldest and most intriguing expressions yet. It’s urban, it’s edgy, and it’s made from concrete

But before you imagine someone strapping a chunk of paving slab to their wrist, let’s clear things up.

Super cement

This isn’t your average cement. Hublot has engineered a unique composite: a concrete-style powder mixed with epoxy resin and treated for durability and wear. The result is a super beautiful speckly matte grey case that feels architectural.

It’s paired with semi-transparent black sapphire crystal sides that offer a sneak peek into the mechanical magic inside. Industrial-chic in the best way.

At 44mm, this is on the big size for even men’s watches but it wears well thanks to Hublot’s ergonomic case design and curved lugs.

A cool ‘one click’ strap system lets you swap between the included grey fabric Velcro strap and a sportier black rubber-lined alternative. And with 50 metres of water resistance, it’s a handy holiday offering too.

Ten-day power reserve

At the heart of the watch is the HUB1201 Manufacture MECA-10 movement. Manually wound, it boasts a massive 10-day power reserve (240 hours) thanks to a clever double barrel system. But the fun doesn’t stop there.

To show off all that stored energy, Hublot ditched traditional design and built something truly original. The movement is constructed on a ring with long bridges fixed on either side.

This not only makes the architecture more open and dynamic, but it also gives the entire mechanism a dramatic 3D look which can be viewed through the skeletonised dial. It’s arty and VERY Hublot.

Reading the time is surprisingly easy thanks to luminous markers and hands, a sub-seconds dial at 9 o’clock, and not one but three different ways to monitor your power reserve, including a numeric display at 6 o’clock.

Experimentation

Every element of this watch, from the matt concrete bezel to the titanium and ceramic clasp, reflects Hublot’s classic fusion and experimentation.

It’s not a limited edition but great for collectors looking for something rare and bold.

In short, the Big Bang MECA-10 Concrete Jungle isn’t just a watch – it’s a style statement. And we think it’s one of the most exciting things Hublot’s done in years.
