New year’s Rolex Day Date is music to our ears
A little out of the box for Rolex, it’s a rare choice of dial for the opening bars of 2024, paying tribute to the Vienna Philharmonic.
The Swiss watch giant has had a relationship with the orchestra since 2008 when it sponsored its New Year Concert, which has been performed on January 1 for the last 80 years.
The announcement for this special edition was leaked but officially announced at the 2024 concert, as it made a sneaky appearance on the wrists of pianist Yuja Wang and opera singer Cecilia Bartoli.
Now we can introduce the Rolex Vienna Philharmonic Oyster Perpetual Day Date 36 – the first watch dedicated to music.
But what is super exciting, and unusual, is that it’s a special edition – so it’s rather a big deal in the horology world.
Rolex Vienna Philharmonic Oyster Perpetual Day Date 36
Paying tribute to the universal world of music, this yellow gold offering features hand-scored illustration of a violin, outlined in gold, along with side impressions of the neck, pegbox and eye of the scroll.
Each part of the stringed instrument is in three shades of green. But watch collectors are sure to go wild for the champlevé grand feu enamel work, engraved into the gold base of the dial, which
complements its lustrous 18-carat yellow-gold case, bracelet and embellishments.
The day is indicated at 12 o’clock, while the date is displayed at 3 o’clock.
This watch joints three Day Date dials already offered by Rolex in green ombré, olive green and a green lacquer dial.
However, those in the hope of owning an exclusive Day-Date may still have an incredibly long wait.
Rolex has officially acknowledged that the production of these watches has been limited for specific clients, implying that the pieces may not be readily available at local watch dealerships in the near future.
But the impressive introduction of this special edition Day-Date in 2024 underscores the brand’s steadfast commitment to excellence.
This horological masterpiece not only heralds the commencement of a new year but also establishes the benchmark for what enthusiasts can anticipate from Rolex in the upcoming months.
